County, cities release proposed shoreline goals and policies
Vancouver, WA – Proposed shoreline master programs for Battle Ground, Camas, Clark County, La Center, Ridgefield, Vancouver and Washougal are available for public review on a project website at http://www.cityofvancouver.us/shorelineupdate/default.html.
Using Washington Department of Ecology guidelines and a state grant, the county and cities pooled their resources to draft consistent shoreline goals and policies. Each jurisdiction must adopt its own program by Dec. 1, 2011, to guide development along creeks, rivers and lakes. Public meetings and hearings will be announced according to local practices and posted on the website.
Under the Shoreline Management Act, state law requires local jurisdictions to establish a plan for areas defined as “shorelines of the state.” The goals are to promote uses that need to be located on or near water, protect the environment and provide public access to shorelines.
For more information, visit the website or contact your local planning department.
